Brothers of Kuumba is an organization dedicated to transforming adolescent boys in grades six, seven, and eight living in urban communities. Through the teaching of African-centered values, our program aims to reinforce and bring out the creative nature of young men, while encouraging them to live their lives as productive citizens of their community. Though the program is based on African centered values, it is open to all young men who want to benefit and become benefactors in the community.
Mission
Through teaching African-centered values, raise the level of self-awareness and empowerment in each male child resulting in a strong young man with exceptional insight, leadership skills, sense of responsibility and greater academic achievement.
Objectives
· To inspire, encourage, and empower male children to reach their fullest potential and live their life with collective consciousness, moral values, and purpose as responsible young men.
· To provide each male child a sense of social responsibility with real-life dialogue, debates, experiences, team-building activities, guest speakers, and entrepreneurship skills.
· To increase knowledge of and appreciation for African American culture, ethnic pride, identity, and values.
· To educate male children and their parents about social and moral responsibility, strong family values, responsible family units, and healthy relationships.
· To provide education on positive and responsible male/female relationships and sexual health.
· To increase positive peer relationships and decrease negative peer interactions.
· To increase identification with and awareness of successful African American male role models.
· To increase life-course expectations regarding education and other achievements.
